Alocasia 'Bambino'

Alocasia 'Bambino'

Alocasia ‘Bambino’ is a compact and striking variety of elephant ear, prized for its dramatic, glossy dark foliage and contrasting pale veins. A miniature relative of the Black Mask Alocasia, this variety features slender, arrow-shaped leaves in deep green to near-black tones.

Native to Southeast Asia, this petite tropical beauty typically reaches just 12–16 inches tall, making it perfect for small spaces while still delivering bold, statement-making style.

Light
Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its deep coloration and healthy growth. It can tolerate medium light, but growth may slow and leaves may become smaller. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the foliage.

Water
Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry, usually every 7–10 days depending on your home’s conditions.

Ensure excellent drainage, as Alocasias are prone to root rot if left sitting in water. Reduce watering in winter when growth naturally slows.

Pet Safe
No, Alocasia ‘Bambino’ is toxic to cats, dogs, and humans if ingested. It contains calcium oxalate crystals that can cause irritation, drooling, and gastrointestinal upset. Keep out of reach of pets and children.

Watch out for…
Alocasia ‘Bambino’ appreciates higher humidity and may develop crispy edges in dry air. It can be sensitive to drafts and sudden temperature changes. Yellowing leaves may signal overwatering, while drooping can indicate thirst.

Like many Alocasias, it may go semi-dormant in cooler months and shed a leaf or two, this is normal. Keep an eye out for spider mites, which are attracted to its dark leaves.

Similar care to…
Shares care habits with other Alocasias like Black Mask and Polly. Also comparable in humidity and watering needs to tropical plants such as Calathea and African Mask Plant.
