Monstera 'Silver Monstera'
Monstera siltepecana, or commonly known as Silver Monstera is an attractive trailing aroid known for its striking silver-patterned foliage.
When young, the plant typically grows as a compact trailing vine, making it perfect for hanging baskets or draping from shelves. As it matures and climbs a support such as a moss pole or totem, the leaves can grow larger and may eventually develop subtle fenestrations.
Native to Mexico and Central America, this fast-growing monstera is both adaptable and rewarding for indoor plant enthusiasts.
Light
Prefers bright, indirect light to maintain its silvery leaf pattern and encourage steady growth. It can tolerate moderate light, but lower light may slow growth and reduce the contrast of the foliage. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.
Water
Allow the top portion of the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Water thoroughly when the top 1–2 inches of soil feel dry, typically every 7–10 days depending on indoor temperature and humidity.
Use a well-draining soil mix and a container with drainage holes to prevent excess moisture around the roots.
Pet Safe
Monstera plants are considered toxic if ingested by pets or humans due to calcium oxalate crystals. Keep this plant out of reach of cats, dogs, and small children.
Watch out for…
This plant appreciates moderate to higher humidity and stable indoor temperatures. Very dry air may cause leaf edges to brown or slow new growth. As a climbing species, it will benefit from support such as a moss pole or totem to encourage larger leaves and more mature growth.
Watch for common houseplant pests such as spider mites, thrips, and mealybugs.
Similar care to…
Shares similar care requirements with other Monstera and climbing aroids. It thrives under conditions similar to tropical vines that prefer bright, indirect light, evenly moist but well-draining soil, and occasional feeding during the active growing season.
