Peperomia
Peperomia is a diverse genus of small tropical plants, often called “Radiator Plants” because they thrive in warm, bright environments (much like a cozy spot on top of a radiator). Native to Central and South America, Peperomias are prized for their ornamental foliage, which ranges from rippled and heart-shaped to variegated and succulent-like. Compact and low-maintenance, they’re perfect for shelves, desktops, or small apartment spaces. With hundreds of varieties, there’s a Peperomia for every plant lover’s aesthetic.
Pet Safe
Yes, Peperomias are non-toxic to pets and children!
Light
Peperomias thrives in bright, indirect light, but can also tolerate moderate or filtered light conditions. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch their leaves. An East or North facing window is ideal, or a few feet back from a brighter window.
Water Requirements
These plants like their soil to dry out between waterings. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry—typically every 1–2 weeks, depending on humidity and temperature. Peperomia is sensitive to overwatering, so make sure the pot has good drainage.
Watch out for…
If you see drooping or mushy leaves, this is likely a sign of overwatering. On the contrary if you see curling or crispy edges, it could indicate under watering or low humidity. Lastly, if you see the color on the leaves fading, it could mean too much direct light.
Similar care to…
Peperomias have similar care needs to Pilea, Calathea and small succulents like Hawthoria, plants that appreciate light but do not like to sit in soggy soil.
