Succulents & Cacti
Pet Safe
Many varieties are pet safe, however some contain toxic substances, such as aloe plants or pencil cactus. Please research your specific variety and/or check with your veterinarian for definitive answers.
Light
Bright, indirect light, with some varieties tolerating more direct light.
Water Requirements
Spring and summer: Water when the top inch of soil is dry, or if succulents appear wrinkly or less plump. If your planting has a drainage hole or your plant is in a grow pot, give the plant a thorough watering, and allow it to drain completely before putting back into a decorative pot. If planted in a container without drainage holes, water more sparingly at the base of each plant. Soil should never remain moist or soggy for a prolonged period of time.
Fall and winter: Reduce watering, and water only sparingly when soil is very dry or plants appear thirsty.
In general, most succulent varieties require more frequent watering than cacti.
Watch our for...
Overwatering. The easiest way to kill a cactus or succulent is to give it too much water. In fact, they recover from underwatering much more easily than overwatering, so when in doubt, wait to water!
