Alocasia Scalprum

Alocasia Scalprum

Alocasia scalprum is a distinctive tropical aroid prized by collectors for its dramatic, sculptural foliage. Native to the Philippines in Southeast Asia, this species features elongated, deeply lobed, arrow-shaped leaves with pronounced veining that gives the plant a bold architectural look.

Reaching about 1–2 feet in height, this medium-sized Alocasia is well suited for tabletops, plant shelves, or small tropical groupings where its unique leaf shape can stand out.

Light
Prefers bright, indirect light to support healthy growth and well-defined foliage. It can tolerate moderate light, but growth may slow and leaves may become smaller. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch the leaves.

Water
Keep the soil consistently lightly moist, allowing the top layer to dry slightly between waterings. Typically watering every 5–7 days works well depending on humidity, temperature, and light conditions.
Use a well-draining, airy soil mix and ensure the container has drainage holes to prevent water from sitting around the roots.

Pet Safe
Alocasia plants are considered toxic if ingested by pets or humans due to calcium oxalate crystals. Keep this plant out of reach of cats, dogs, and small children.

Watch out for…
This plant thrives in warm temperatures and higher humidity. Dry indoor air may cause leaf edges to brown or curl. Like many Alocasias, it may occasionally drop older leaves as it produces new growth, especially if environmental conditions change.
Watch for common pests such as spider mites, thrips, and mealybugs, which can appear in warm indoor environments.

Similar care to…
Shares similar care requirements with other Alocasia species and tropical aroids. It thrives under conditions similar to plants that prefer bright, indirect light, consistent moisture with excellent drainage, and higher humidity.
