Phalaenopsis Orchid
Orchids are loved for their unique, long lasting flowers that come in a wide range of colors and patterns, adding a truly elegant touch to any home. While they are often considered a bit more challenging to care for, once you understand their needs for bright, indirect light and proper watering, they can thrive with ease. With the right care, your orchid will reward you with beautiful blooms that can last for weeks!
Pet Safe
Orchids are safe for both cats and dogs.
Light
Orchids do best in bright, indirect light. Do not place them in direct sunlight as it can be too harsh for their delicate leaves. In the winter, artificial light can be used if light needs to be supplemented.
Water Requirements
Instead of following a strict watering schedule, it's best to check the potting medium regularly to see if it's dry before watering. Once the potting medium is dry, remove the orchid from the decorative pot and water thoroughly, allowing it to drain well before returning it to the pot.
If you don't plan to remove the orchid from the pot to drain, water more sparingly - about a quarter of a cup at a time - to ensure the plant does not sit in water. With this method, you may water more frequently than with the above method, but be sure to wait to water until the potting medium is dry in both cases!
Watch out for…
Unlike many houseplants, orchids don’t require constant moisture throughout the potting medium; keeping it too wet can lead to root rot. Despite commonly heard orchid advice, do not use ice cubes to water your orchid...it's a tropical plant, so freezing cold water is not its preference! Instead, imagine the amount of water a few ice cubes would offer, and use room temperature water instead.
